Itinerary

Day 1 — Day 1

12:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Depart from Surabaya or Malang. The drive to the Bromo region (typically to villages like Cemoro Lawang, Sukapura, or Tosari) takes about 3 to 4 hours. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
4:00 PM: Check into your hotel. Use this time to rest and adjust to the temperature, as it gets quite chilly up the mountain.
6:00 PM: Have an early dinner at your hotel or local warungs (e.g., in Cemoro Lawang), then get to bed early for a midnight wake-up call. [1, 2, 3]

Day 2 — Day 2

2:30 AM: Meet your driver and board a 4WD Jeep. (Jeep tours are mandatory in the Bromo area).
3:00 AM - 4:30 AM: Drive up to the sunrise viewpoint (such as Penanjakan 1 or King Kong Hill).
4:30 AM - 6:00 AM: Wait for the sun to rise. Enjoy the stunning, panoramic views of the Bromo caldera with Mount Semeru smoking in the background. Sip hot coffee or tea from local vendors to stay warm.
6:00 AM - 6:30 AM: Ride the Jeep down to the Sea of Sand (Lautan Pasir), the massive volcanic desert.
6:30 AM - 8:30 AM: Trek across the Sea of Sand to the base of Mount Bromo. Climb the approximately 250 stairs to peer directly into the active, steaming crater.
8:30 AM - 9:30 AM: Return to your Jeep and head to the Savannah/Teletubbies Hill and Whispering Sand (Pasir Berbisik) for photos.
10:00 AM: Return to your hotel, pack up, and enjoy breakfast.
